Sometimes the Best Design Decision Is Subtraction
This master bath remodel removed a wall, eliminated two doors, and created the open, spa-inspired space this Wisconsin home had been waiting for.
Three Doors Too Many
The original layout of this master bath had been quietly frustrating for years.
A full interior wall divided the bathroom into two separate sections, each with its own door. Add a third door connecting directly to the bedroom, and you had a space that felt more like a hallway maze than a personal retreat.
For a room meant to offer calm and comfort at the start and end of every day, something had to change.
Less Division, More Space
The solution was decisive and clean. The dividing wall came down. The bedroom door was removed and closed off. In its place, a tall linen cabinet was positioned beside the toilet, providing natural privacy without closing the space back in.
The result is a bathroom that finally flows, where the vanity, the toilet area, and the shower all exist together in one open, connected space.

Warmth From the Ground Up
The cabinetry sets the tone for everything in this bathroom.
The vanity and linen tower are built from Welborne Forest maple in a nutmeg stain on the Westin door style. The deep, warm wood tone runs throughout the space, giving the bathroom a grounded, custom feel that painted cabinets simply cannot replicate.
The tall linen tower beside the toilet rises nearly to the ceiling, adding both practical storage and a sense of architectural presence the original bathroom never had.
Clean Lines and One Showstopper Tile
The countertops and integral sinks are Avonite Nordic solid surface, a seamless white piece with no grout lines and no seam at the basin edge.
Running above it is the inset decorative backsplash: Anthology Glassique Bean Lagoon. Cool blues, soft greens, and subtle grey tones come together in a handcrafted glass mosaic that bridges the teal wall color and the crisp white surface below it.
It is the kind of detail that makes the whole room feel designed rather than decorated.
Details That Make the Difference
The finishing details in this bathroom were chosen to work as hard as they look good.
Four matte black wall sconces frame two decorative round mirrors above the vanity, creating a warm, symmetrical lighting setup for any time of day. Kohler Hint faucets and Moen Gentra accessories carry the matte black finish throughout, from the towel rings to the toilet paper holder. The Toto Aqua IV Cube brings clean, modern lines to the space.
And the motion-controlled toe kick lighting beneath the vanity? Step into the bathroom at night and the floor glows softly beneath you. It is a small detail with a big impact, and it tends to be the first thing guests notice.
Built Right, Priced Honestly
At $38,000, this project covered far more than what you see on the surface.
The total investment included full demolition, a complete electrical upgrade with a new subpanel, all plumbing work, a new floor, drywall repairs, complete painting, and a new hallway door. Every permit was pulled and managed by Allen Kitchen and Bath, with all licensed labor included.
The cabinetry, surfaces, fixtures, lighting, and accessories were all part of that number too. No surprises. No separate invoices. Just one beautifully finished bathroom and a homeowner who says they wish they had done it sooner.
